Trailers for jigs and spinner baits are very popular.  Most are made from soft plastic and there are limited sizes and colors available.  It is very simple to make multi-strand trailers from skirt layers.  There is a huge selection of skirt layer colors available and trailers can be made from any variety of colors or any combination of colors.  You can make the trailers to shorter lengths to fit the lure size you are using.  These trailers are very durable and have a terrific action in the water.
 

Here is the simple procedure for making the trailers.

1. Select the layer color or colors you want and decide the number of strands you want in the trailer.  If you use less than a full layer (20 strands) separate off the number of strands you need.  The illustrations on this page are made from a full skirt layer.

2. Place a skirt collar over one end of the layer.

3. trim the uncut band from the end of the layer that does not have the skirt collar on it.  Trim the trailer to your desired length.  Do not trim the end where the skirt collar is because it makes the trailer more durable.

4.  You are ready to go.  Simply place the lure hook through the collar and slide the collar up the shank of the hook.
