Improved Tip Up Jig with Hitchhiker Coil |
|
Tip up type jigs are becoming very popular because they allow the plastic grubs, worms or craws to stand up on end when dropped to the bottom in shallow or deep water. You can easily make your own Tip Up or Stand Up jigs with Do-It's Tip Up jig mold. This mold has 6 cavities from 1/8 oz. to 7/16 oz. The mold is designed to use aberdeen hooks like the Mustad 32756 and the Eagle Claw 570. The size range of the hooks for the cavities in the mold is from a size 2 in the smallest cavity to a 2/0 in the largest. We have checked and you can actually use a 3/0 in the largest cavity. There are many brands and finishes available in this style of hook. In addition to the aberdeen hook the following hooks will fit this mold: Gamakatsu 114, Gamakatsu 604 and Owner 5318. |

The jig heads we are showing here were molded with an
Eagle Claw 574 hook, which is an aberdeen style hook with a longer
shank. The important thing we want to show you though is the use
of the
Hitchhiker coil to secure the plastic lure body. The
Hitchhiker is snapped onto the eye of the jig and because it is not
molded into the head it will move to align the plastic lure body
perfectly with the point of the hook no matter what style hook you use.
The picture shows a Tip Up jig head from the mold, a head with the
Hitchhiker attached to the eye and a head with the collar trimmed off,
painted with a plastic grub attached. |
